Students from Assam and Manipur call on the President

New Delh:-A group of 42 students attending National Integration Tour from Kokrajhar and Chirang districts (Bodo region) of Assam and Shangshak (Ukhrul region) of Manipur called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (October 19, 2013). 

Speaking on the occasion, the President said the North-East of India is a rich region full of scenic beauty, flora and fauna, high culture, dance, music, etc. Unfortunately for some time, it has witnessed conflict, clashes and violence. He complimented the organizers of the National Integration Tour for bringing children from these regions to Delhi to discover the grandeur of India. 

The President said the history of Delhi reflects the character of the people of India, which includes the people of the North-East. This is a history of people never being cowed down and emerging from difficulties, despite downturns from time to time. India is home to one of the oldest civilizations and is now trying to become a front ranking State in the modern world. The people and children of the North-East are an integral part of this ancient but rising India. 

The National Integration Tour for Students from Manipur was organized by 16 Assam Rifles and the tour for students from Assam was organized by 2 Rajput (Kali Chindi).
